Qwest Corporation and the Lumen End of Sale: What Colorado Customers Need to Know

“Qwest Corporation” is still the name on a lot of Colorado paperwork, even though the news right now is all about Lumen. If that name appears on your invoice or master service agreement, this guide explains what happened, where Qwest Corporation fits today, and what a sensible next step looks like for Colorado Qwest voice services, from Denver and Boulder to Colorado Springs.

    Quick Answer

As of August 1, 2026, Lumen stopped selling and renewing voice services, including Qwest voice services held under Qwest Corporation. Your Colorado service keeps running and stays supported, and Lumen has announced no shutoff date. When your term ends, service typically converts to month-to-month, which is the natural moment to compare alternatives to Lumen voice services.

    What Did Not Happen

Your phone service was not shut off, and no date has been announced for that to happen. Lumen has not shared an end-of-life date for current voice contracts, and existing customers still receive full support. If a scary headline brought you here, the thing it implied, an imminent shutoff, isn’t true. Your Colorado Qwest voice services stay active, and you can review alternatives to Lumen voice services at your own pace.

    What Happened

As of August 1, 2026, Lumen stopped selling and renewing voice services. Partners can no longer write new voice contracts or renew existing ones. The Lumen end of sale covers SIP trunking, Voice Complete, Microsoft Teams voice services, and Zoom voice services sold through Lumen, and it applies to Colorado customers who buy Qwest voice services just as it does everywhere else.

Lumen has said it will invest more in network-as-a-service and AI-ready connectivity and less in legacy voice. Existing Lumen contracts stay in effect until they end, so for most Colorado organizations, the Lumen end of sale is a prompt to plan, not a deadline.

    Qwest Corporation, Then and Now

Qwest was headquartered in Denver, and Qwest Corporation, the local phone company serving Colorado, traces its roots to U S West, which Qwest merged with in 2000. Qwest merged into CenturyLink in 2011, and CenturyLink renamed itself Lumen Technologies in 2020. The Qwest Corporation legal entity carried through each step, which is why it still appears on contracts today. For the fuller history, see our Qwest Corporation guide.

Is It Qwest, CenturyLink, or Something Else on Your Paperwork?

Corporate names in Colorado’s telecom history have changed more than once, so one organization can appear under different names on different documents. Depending on when you signed and what you bought, your contract may list Qwest Corporation, CenturyLink QC, CenturyLink Communications, or Level 3 Communications. Whichever you see, the same Lumen end of sale applies to your Qwest voice services in Colorado. Check the document for your contract end date, or use our Is my voice contract affected? check.

What Happens When Your Contract Ends

When your current voice contract reaches its end date, there’s no new contract to renew into. Service generally converts to month-to-month, which doesn’t by itself terminate anything. Month-to-month keeps working, but pricing tends to run higher than a negotiated term, and you lose the predictability of a fixed contract. Before that date, decide what you want to do next, and compare alternatives to Lumen voice services that fit your Qwest voice services footprint.

    Colorado’s Regulatory Picture

In Colorado, telecommunications carriers operate under the oversight of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. The Commission doesn’t set Lumen’s product roadmap, but it does explain the customer protections that apply to regulated telecom services during transitions like this one.

What This Looks Like Across Colorado

The Colorado organizations with the most at stake are the ones where a phone line is part of patient care or campus safety.

magnific__a-university-library-with-large-windows-framing-sn__56918Healthcare. A hospital network across the Front Range might manage a multi-site Voice Complete contract, with nurse call escalation, patient lines, and after-hours answering all depending on it. A migration there needs E911 accuracy for every building and a phased cutover.

Higher education. A college in Boulder or Colorado Springs might still run PRI lines for emergency phones and building systems. Those deserve an inventory before anything moves, with cutovers timed around the academic calendar.

None of these are emergencies, but each Colorado Qwest voice services account merits a review before it quietly converts to month-to-month.

Common Questions About Qwest Corporation and the End of Sale

What happens to my voice service when a provider transitions ownership or branding?

Service generally continues under existing Lumen terms. Qwest Corporation is still the contracting entity on many Colorado agreements, and your service stays active and supported.

How will the Lumen end of sale affect my current voice contract?

Your current Colorado contract remains in effect until it ends. Lumen renewals aren’t available for Qwest voice services, and after the term ends, agreements typically switch to month-to-month.

Do I need to sign a new agreement?

Lumen isn’t offering new contracts for legacy voice, so service converts to month-to-month. If you prefer term pricing, explore alternatives to Lumen voice services and sign with another carrier.

    Can my monthly charges change?

During your term, your contracted Lumen rates apply. After you move to month-to-month, rates may change and are often higher.

What rights do Colorado customers have?

You keep your contractual rights with Lumen through your existing term, along with protections under Colorado Public Utilities Commission oversight. You can also port your numbers to a new provider.

Start With a No-Cost Environment Review

You don’t need to solve this today, and you don’t need to solve it alone. Send us your contract, or just your questions. We’ll explain what your Qwest Corporation paperwork actually commits you to, when it really ends, and which alternatives to Lumen voice services make sense for your Colorado Qwest voice services before then.
