If your voice agreement names “Level 3 Communications LLC” rather than Qwest or CenturyLink, you might assume Lumen’s announcement doesn’t apply to you. It does: Level 3 Communications is part of Lumen. Here’s what the Level 3 Communications end of sale and Lumen voice end of sale mean for you, and why your contract may look different from a typical small-business phone bill.
As of August 1, 2026, Lumen stopped selling and renewing voice services, including under Level 3 Communications LLC. Your service keeps running and stays supported under your current terms, and no shutoff date has been announced. When your term ends, there’s no new agreement to renew into, so service typically converts to month-to-month.
Your service was not shut off, and no date has been announced for that to happen. Lumen has not published an end-of-life date for existing voice contracts, and current customers under a Level 3 Communications entity continue to receive full support today. If a headline about Lumen exiting the voice business sent you here, an imminent shutoff hasn’t happened. The Level 3 Communications end of sale and the Lumen voice end of sale are sales milestones, not service shutoff deadlines.
In 2020, CenturyLink renamed itself Lumen Technologies. Level 3 Communications LLC didn’t become a new company at that point. It remains a legal entity under CenturyLink, which now operates under Lumen.
Qwest and CenturyLink grew out of traditional local telephone service. Level 3 came from long-haul fiber. If you bought voice services through a Level 3 Communications LLC agreement, there’s a good chance your setup involves higher-volume SIP trunking, multi-location service, or a more detailed master service agreement than a standard small-business phone contract. None of that changes what the Level 3 Communications end of sale means, but your contract may read differently from the typical examples you’ll find elsewhere.
As of August 1, 2026, Lumen stopped selling and renewing voice services, including for accounts held under Level 3 Communications LLC. This Lumen voice end of sale applies to SIP trunking, Voice Complete, Microsoft Teams voice services, and Zoom voice services sold through Lumen. Partners can no longer write new voice contracts or renew ones that are ending.
End of sale means the product is no longer available for new purchases or renewals, while your existing agreement runs on its current terms. It doesn’t turn off active service, and it doesn’t terminate a Level 3 voice contract that’s still within its committed term.

Here’s how the end of sale plays out for a Level 3 customer. New orders stopped on August 1, 2026. Your existing service and support continue for the rest of your committed term. When that term reaches its end date, there’s no new Level 3 or Lumen voice agreement to renew into, so service typically converts to month-to-month.
For a larger or multi-site voice deployment, that shift deserves more deliberate planning than it might for a single-location business. Pricing and SLA terms in a Level 3 master service agreement can be more complex to unwind, and moving many sites takes longer. The core question is the same either way: when does your specific term end, and what do you want to do before it does?
It means the provider has stopped selling a product to new customers and stopped renewing it for existing ones. The service itself keeps running for current customers until their terms end.
Existing customers keep their service, support, and current terms. What changes is the ability to renew, add capacity, or buy more of the product.
New orders stop immediately. Existing service continues through each customer’s committed term, after which it typically converts to month-to-month. In this case, no end-of-support or end-of-life date has been announced.
No. Under the Level 3 Communications end of sale and Lumen voice end of sale, customers can’t place new orders for the affected voice services, and renewals aren’t available once a Level 3 voice contract reaches its end date. Existing customers can continue using their service through the committed term, and many will roll to month-to-month if the contract allows. Adding capacity or new instances generally isn’t available.
Customers under a Level 3 Communications LLC agreement continue to receive operational support, billing assistance, trouble ticketing, and standard SLAs while the contract is in effect, including any month-to-month continuation the agreement allows. What changes is the ability to renew or expand, not day-to-day support.
Some customers see Level 3 Communications LLC on some services and CenturyLink QC, CenturyLink Communications LLC, or Qwest Corporation on others. That reflects which acquisition a service came from, not multiple vendors. Your master service agreement is the authoritative source for which entity governs which service. For the full picture across all of them, see our Lumen voice end of sale guide.
If Level 3 Communications LLC is on your contract, you’re covered by the same Lumen voice end-of-sale announcement as every other affected customer. Your setup is just often larger or more technically involved. Your service is running normally. The useful next step is pulling your actual MSA, confirming your term end date, and reviewing your options with someone comfortable reading a contract of that scale. Knowing exactly how your Level 3 voice contract transitions at end of term is what makes a smooth migration possible.
We work with Level 3 Communications LLC agreements as readily as we work with a small-business Qwest or CenturyLink contract. We’ll help you read your MSA, confirm your real term end date, and map out what a transition would look like across your actual footprint, whether that’s one site or twenty. No charge, no obligation.
