Avaya CM Off-Site Backup, Simplified

Written by Aldo Febro | March 10, 2014

Recent severe winter storms have negatively affected many businesses and telephone systems throughout the country. Whether your phone lines are down or your telephone system is physically damaged, chances are, you won't be able to use the backup media that you have stored onsite. Don’t let severe weather or other disasters prevent you from staying in touch with customers and employees. Back up your system today to prevent problems tomorrow.

Off-site backup doesn't have to be burdensome. You can do automated backups online. Some telephone systems allow you to perform automated online backups to a remote server thousands of miles away from your physical location. When your on-site backup is unusable, your off-site copy can come to the rescue.

How To Backup Avaya Communication Manager Off-Site

From the System Maintenance page, click on the “Schedule Backup” link on the left-hand column. Then click on “Add” button, as indicated below:

Select the data that you would like to back up, as well as the backup method. Make sure you select “Network Device” and “SFTP”. With the SFTP option, the data is secured and encrypted during transmission. Set the time you would like this automated backup to occur, and click on “Add New Schedule” button:

The off-site backup is now scheduled:

Please contact your Account Manager if you are interested in doing off-site backups. We do have SecureFTP (SFTP) server available in our data center.

How will you know that the scheduled backup was successful?

You will receive an email notification when the backup files have been uploaded.

How can you retrieve your off-site backup files?

At Continuant, we have a web interface to our SFTP server. Once you are logged in, you will be able to select and download the files for the restore process.
